What is the Discovery City Micro-Campus?
Located on the campus of our partner university or institution, the Discovery City micro-campus is a high-impact, dual Japanese and English education center that allows learners to experience learning through real-life daily activity simulations. The center can be converted into a Japanese city environment for U.S.
learners and a U.S. city environment for Japanese learners. All our instructors are bi-lingual in
English
and Japanese.
Following a series of in-class lessons that focus on culture, social-norms and survival language, Discovery
City
brings education to life and provides learners with an immersive learning experience that gives them a
first-hand glimpse into what it would feel like to experience a new and exciting culture.
How Does Discovery City Work?
At Discovery City, learners will be able to interact within a simulated real-world environment through daily activities in our Real-World Classrooms. After in-class instruction around an introduction of culture and language, how individuals interact, dress and carry themselves and the most important do's and don'ts of a society, learners are provided scenarios and challenges to compete with their peers towards a common goal of surviving in this new and exciting world.
Instructors guide learners through the simulations and provide their own life experiences to help learners through sharing real life examples that bring authenticity to the experience.
“We strive to invest in each individual transformative experience and make it a priority to provide competent management, oversight and guidance.”
Chika Takai, Executive Director
We strive to invest in each individual transformative experience and make it a priority to provide competent management, oversight and guidance. Ultimately, we want our programming to assist with clarifying career interests and expectations, growing language capabilities and growing individuals' overall confidence and global skill set. We are working to inform, educate and empower.
